The traditional role of the CEO has been usefully compared to the conductor of an orchestra: the musical program has been determined, the players have been selected, what is left is to create a complex collaboration between many individual talents and produce sounds that represent the composer’s intent as closely as possible.
Even though the individual musicians develop their talents in many ways, when they come together in one orchestrated effort the musical results are far more than the sum of their parts. Today’s CEO adds still another layer of responsibility; that of creating the vision that inspires the company, the strategy that guides it, and the gathering of the executive team to achieve the vision. The CEO has become composer as well as conductor.
At PSA we have put together a diverse mix of the most talented and experienced individuals from every discipline that affects the marketing supply chain. Those disciplines include print production, project management, performance analytics, data and list management, logistics, cross-channel marketing, regulatory expertise, and trend analysis. The players in all these disciplines contribute their own expertise to the end result. The job of the CEO is to encourage collaboration and to stimulate excellence while constantly scanning the horizon for new opportunities and risks.
To do that requires that the orchestra, or the management team at PSA, agree on a common goal and work together seamlessly to achieve that vision. At PSA our vision is to enable our clients to create and implement complex marketing strategies that perform at the highest levels.
A musical score is a complex arrangement of notes that interact with each other. That complexity pales in comparison to the multitude of diverse, connected and interdependent elements that constitute the cross-channel marketing supply chain. We simplify that complexity and the results are beautiful music to our clients.
